*Note:  This is a poem for a grandmother who raised her grandchild/grandchildren.

"To the one who loved and raised me

And cared for me as your own

Willing to give up an easier life

To bring me into your home

Who let me know that I was important

And definitely worth the time

That others would not...or could not give

After too many promises left behind

And I was deeply grateful

To finally have a home

That seemed to have a place for me

That I could call my own

And my love for you...it grew daily

And my trust seemed easier to share

As I opened myself up in a way

That in the past I wouldn't have dared

You gave me a lifetime of happy mem'ries

That slowly erased the bad

Instilling in me a hope for the future ... "
